For sure you have seen the Andy Warhol art post-cards that come on all sorts of versions, and for sure you would love to have your own personalized version of them. Great thing that you found this tutorial then. Lets see how you can turn an ordinary picture into art with a couple of photoshop brushes.

First we will open our image on photoshop and to glam things up we will use Marilyn.

Then we will prepare our picture to accept the quintessential Warhol colors by messing around with the Brightness Contrast, which will give our picture a polarized effect. You will find the Brightness Contrast window on your top navigation bar, Image->Adjustments->Brightness Contrast. When you click it you will get a dialogue window. On that scroll the Contrast cursor all the way to 100, hit OK. You image just got more interesting.

Next we will play with Layers. Go to the top bar and choose Layers->Adjustment Layers->Posterize as shown below and name it. With this you are done with the procedural stuff, time now to get creative and bring the real Warhol out!

Now create a new layer and name it. From the layer drop down menu choose the following: Layer->Layer Style->Blending Options->Multiply. This is extremely important as it will allow you to roughly paint each of the layers (hair, skin etc) without really caring about outlines. Really really handy!

Next reach out for your brush, normal brush will do and for the hair we will use a bright yellow to “pop out” our portait.

We will repeat the above process in the exact same way for Marilyn’s skin and dress, each time using a different pop color.

Finish it off with a few extra brushes where you missed a spot and Warhol would be proud of that one!

Admit it. You wish you had X-Ray glasses. If you get across a pair, shoot this site a message.
In the meantime lets see how you can get to the next best thing which is digitally removing clothes with photoshop.

Step 1. Upload that summer picture-it usually is a summer picture-on your photoshop. We will use an anonymous one we found on the internet.

Step 2.Click on the layer on the right hand sidebar and duplicate the layer. We will work on the copied layer so make sure that the copy layer is highlighted before you start editing you image.

Step 3.Click on the lasso tool. You will find the lasso tool on the very top of you left hand sidebar. Using click and drag outline the garment you wish it wasn’t there. In our case we will outline the bikini. Don’t worry if you don’t get the exact outline or if you miss a line, we will fix that later. Just make sure that with the lasso tool you cover the entire garment.

Step 4. Once you are done outlining the entire garment the end of your lasso line should meet its starting point creating a loop (lasso!) and if the line is glittering it means you got it right.

Step 5. On the top navigation bar of your photoshop editor click on “Edit” and then “Fill” from the drop down menu. This will pop the Fill option menu. This should be set to “Content Aware Normal” and 100% .

Step 6. Hit OK!

Step 7. Deselect the lasso line but clicking anywhere on the image. Next we are gonna add some realism by removing any marks. From your left hand sidebar choose the Healing Brush and start passing it on the marks that the lasso tool has left. Simply click and drag, click and drag until you have covered all the marks.

And now you know!Have fun!

Lets see step by step you can get there in no time!

Step 1. Open that problematic picture on photoshop .

Step 2. Create a new layer from the bottom left menu. We will be working on this layer.

Step 3. On your right hand toolbar you should find the Healing Brush tool. Left click on it as shown below if you have trouble finding it. To use the Healing Brush tool:
•	Hold down the ALT (or Option) on your keyboard
•	Left click on the area you want to “heal” while holding ALT (or Option) down

Step 4. When you click ALT and left click the Healing Brush Tool should turn into a wider circle.

Step 5. Zoom in the wrinkled area of your photoshop picture to focus on those annoying lines.
*Note that you can adjust the size of the brush by using the bracket key on your keyboard.

Step 6. Simply start brushing with the tool over the lines you want to heal. The tool automatically detects the difference in the texture and starts smoothing out the wrinkles magically. Continue until all the lines have been smoothed out.

Step 7. When done “ironing” you want to blend in the de-wrinkled areas by expanding the use of the healing brush tool to the peripheral area of the wrinkles. In this way you will get a more natural effect.

Step 8. Once finished with using the healing brush you may notice that the face looks a bit un-natural, with a rather lifting effect. This is quite normal do not fear! To fix this we will use opacity. You will find opacity on the bottom left of your screen just above the layer you created in the beginning of this tutorial. Once found just lower the opacity. Play with the opacity percentage, usually something like 35-45% should do the trick as it will bring back some of the wrinkles you just removed but more ironed out! Good uh?

While most styles are considered as layers fyltron effects (e.g, glows, bevels, and drop shadows), it is important to understand that it applies to a filter. Apply an effect in the entire layer.

For example, suppose you have a picture of a ball in its own layer and you apply a Drop Shadow to this layer. When this is done, everything in this layer will have exactly the same drop shadow to the ball.

Draw a line with the brush? This is drop shadow. Drag a rectangular selection and fill with glare to add another drop shadow. Remember, the styles are known as layer styles affect the entire layer.

The gritty high contrast effect is a popular effect used widely on printed media and recently it appears more and more in movies too. We will see how we can easily get this effect that will turn a regular image into a very bright and vibrant one.

The last mode will bring up the color table, from it drop down menu, Choose black body. Using ctrl+a select everything in your image and then ctrl+c to copy everything. Then with F12 bring back the original image and straight after ctrl+v to paste the modified image you just created with the 3 steps mentioned above.

Finally drag the Blend mode to Luminosity, if you want to touch it up add a little noise by Select -> Filte r-> Noise, 3% should be sufficient for a relatively small photo and that’s it!

On this tutorial we will quickly go over how to glamourize a photo in an efficient and quick way.

First thing you need to do is open your photo on photoshop, right click on layer and duplicate the photo twice by Right Click-> Duplicate -> OK.
Once this is done turn off your background layer, and now you are ready to go into the main retouching process.

First we will apply a filter to the first layer, that’s Filter -> Distort -> Diffuse Glow , which will bring up the Diffuse Glow menu as shown below.

Next you want to move the graininess slider to 0, the glow between 4 and 7 and finally the clear slider between 7 and 10 to avoid wash-out colours hit ok, and you are done with your first layer.

Moving on to your second layer, Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur and set it to 5.5 and move back to your top layer.

Select the top layer and go to blending mode to overlay and there you go your new picture glamourized with soft focus and softer light in less that 5mins!

On this tutorial we will learn how to watermark images so you can take multiple photos and process them all together by applying an Action.

Open your picture on Photoshop and first thing you want to do is open up your logo like a in a dpi format. A pdf dialogue box will open up and your will be prompted to choose your logo. A resolution of 72 dpi is fine for the purposes of this tutorial.

Once you have your logo open you will need to use the laso tool in order to extract the silhouette version-that is the plain version with no graphics or skins-of your logo in order to turn it into its watermarked version.

Once you select hit the “V” button which will extract it and then simply drag and drop it on your Photoshop window on the right top corner. Moving on grab your layers panel and ctrl+click the thumbnail of your logo and click on the pads tab of your layers panel, that is the third tab. Then you want to click on the 5th from left, icon on the bottom toolbar of you pads tab that is the convert action to path button.

Once you hit that it will convert your action into a workpath, save that. Now you are free to delete the layer with the logo!

In case you are confused what we just did is creating a workpath that consist only of the shape of our logo with no fill at all! This would look like this.

Grab your actions panel from the top menu->Actions. We are now going to create an automated task that you record and then apply on every one of your pictures saving you a lot of time.

Click on New Action on the Action Panel and name the action you are about to record, we will name this Watermark. Once done hit the record button on your Actions Panel making sure you have the Watermark actions selected.

1. First thing you want to do is on the actions panel right click and on the pop up menu hit insert path.
2. Create a new layer and on this new layer paste the action path your created earlier with your logo.
3. Fill that new layer with any colour you want and deselect that layer.
4. Select layer one on your layers panel and hit Drop Shadow->Screenmode to give our logo some depth. Choose the colour of you shadow white if you want to give it an outer glow.
5. Set the opacity to 9 and the distance to 0 and the spread to 11 and the size to around 15.
6. Go to blending options of your Layer Styles panel and on the advanced blending box we are going to set the filter glow opacity to 0 and hit ok. This will leave only the outside halo of our logo while the fill will remain blank see-through like.

Now the only thing that is left to do is go to your Photoshop’s top toolbar and hit Select -> Select All and select the entire image in order to align our logo to the entire image.

So we go to Layer-> Align Layer to Selection Vertical Edges and then Layer -> Align Layer to Selection Horizontal Edges which will move our logo to the centre of any photo we want to work on and Ctrl+D to deselect and stop recording and your watermark action is ready!

Try applying the same watermark action to any other photo and you immediately get your watermarked logo right in the middle of your image.

This is an excellent timesaver as it involves several time consuming steps as shown that you probably dont want to go over and over again when processing a lot of photos. Try to see how effectively it works for you!

In this tutorial we’re going to have a look on how to create a glass effect to any shape or text. Start by opening up a new work space.

Click any shape you want. Make for instance a circle, remember to hold down shift to make a perfect shaped circle. You can use any colour you want for this tutorial. Once you have this, look in your layer palette, right click the image you created and select “layer transparency”. Create a new layer without deselecting, go to select -> modify -> contract -> contract by 3 pixels.

Now, in select a darker colour than the one you have for your shape (as mentioned, you can use any colour for this one). Now switch to the gradient tool and use gradient to transparent. You can either go up or down over your picture, it’s probably easier and wiser to go up. This will add the volume to the shape you created.

Once you have this, deselect (ctrl+d) - now do the same thing all over again. Right click on the first image, select layer transparency, create a new layer - put this layer on top. Then select the marquee tool, but make sure to use the elliptical marquee tool, the third option is to select “subtract from selection”. This will make sure that it’s going to subtract anything you’re going to select instead of adding it. Then go to Select -> Modify -> Contract by 5 pixels.

To make it smoother, we’ll right click on the selection, while holding the lasso tool - use feather and 10 pixels. Fill this with white (or any brighter colour from the one you chose originally), using the paint bucket as you normally would.

When we have the base for this, we’ll create a new layer - select the elliptical marquee tool again and set white as your foreground colour. Then create a circle on top of your shape. It’s easier to make a circle, but it could really be any shape - oval or so would also work in this example. As the white is the foreground colour, set foreground to transparent using the gradient tool and go from up to down over your shape.

Once we have this done, it’s more or less finished - all we have to do now is link the layer by selecting them and then select “merge linked” from the layers palette.

And that’s it really! You’ve now created a glass effect to your circle.

You can also spice this up by adding a glass reflection. You’d then duplicate the layer and flip it upside down, set the opacity to 50% or so, and then use the erase tool (again using opacity maximum 60%). That’d make the final result look something like this instead.

Then we will duplicate the same layer by clicking on the new layer and dragging and dropping on the layers dialogue panel. Now we are going to change the blending mode, always on the layers panel, through the drop down menu, on the second inverted copy to luminosity. This action will give you the effect of colour infrared film.

We will apply the same effect on another picture to better display the colour infrared type of effect.

Tip: How to create an Action macro on photoshop!
Its handy if you are using this effect often to create an action out of it following the steps:

1. Open up your actions palette
2. Click on the new action palette and name it
3. Click record and repeat once more the steps mentioned above to create the IR Filter effect.
4. Add an invert
5. Duplicate it
6. Change the invert’s blending mode in luminosity using the top drop down menu.
7. Stop the recording action.

Your Action is ready!

When you will want to apply it, just open a photo, click on your actions tab, select the action you just created and click Play! The action is performed in a macro-like fashion.

Now, flip the text 90 degrees CCW, you can do this by using the transform tool under ‘edit’. After this we’ll apply the wind filter, you can do this by going to Filter -> Stylize -> Wind, make sure to apply wind from right to left. Repeat this step 3 times.

Flip the text back using 90 CW (edit -> transform again) and add a gaussian blur filter (Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur -> 7 pixels). Now make a new layer (ctrl+shift+n) and go to Image -> Apply Image.

Now it’s time to utilize the first magic, go to Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation and make sure ‘colorize is selected’. Set the hue to 40 and the saturation to 100.

Duplicate this layer (ctrl+j) and go again to hue/saturation, this time set the hue to -40. Now set the layer on color doge and click ctrl+e which will merge down the layer.

After this we’ll use liquify which is placed under the filters menu, press “W”, select brush size 50, with a density of 40, you can keep the pressure at 100. We’re now going to use the dodge tool to create some cool flames by ‘dragging the wind up’. After you’ve added the first set to flames, lower the brush size to add more details to your flames, using the same technique.

After you’ve done this, type your text again, but this time in black - move your text ‘into’ your old text. Now duplicate layer 1 (the new layer, use ctrl+j again) and drag it above the other layers. Set it on screen and leave the opacity to 100%, both these things can be handled from inside the layers menu.

Now add a layer mask and take the gradient tool, take the linear gradient white to black and drag from top of the text to the bottom. After this, use the smudge tool at 60 pixels and drag over the black letters you don’t want to be black.

Create a new layer and go to Image -> Apply Image, set this new layer to screen and the opacity to 60%. On top of this we’ll use Gaussian Blur with the radius 50 pixels (Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur). Again, create a new layer and go to Image -> Apply Image. We’ll now make a new layer once again and go to Image -> Apply Image, important is to set the opacity of this layer to 50% this time, after this press ctrl+t.

After this, go to Edit -> Transform -> Perspective to create a shadow effect by mirroring the image, this will make the text float and look really cool!

Hopefully, if you’ve done all the steps right, you’ll have something like this on your screen.
