In this tutorial you will learn how to create a very convincing fire explosion using simple brushes which you can afterwards apply over photographs to get a cool explosion effect. The very strong point of this method is that it takes very little time and you need very basic tools that all photoshop editions offer.

Create a canvas with a black background and pick a soft edge brush with white as the foreground color and create a new layer.

On the new layer start painting random swirls, dont try to give it a particular shape, the more random it looks the better the final result!

If you want to get more variations on the shapes of your doodles just lower the opacity of your brush by 20-30% .

Next reach for your smudge tool and start dragging lines out from the core of the drawing you just created. Make sure that all the lines you paint begin from the centre as this will give your explosion a more radiating effect. Keep dragging lines with the smudge tool until you have created a halo around your initial drawing.

To prepare for the next step we will lock the Transparency of this layer. This will prevent color from spilling over the edges of the lines. Do this by clicking on the Lock button above the layers palette as shown below.

Next from the color palette set the foreground and background colors of the layer to red and yellow. You do not need to worry about the shade of the colors now as we will apply layers, just go for the basic shades.

The go to Filters->Render and click on the Clouds filter, this is what you should be looking at by now , well more or less…

Next change the colors of the layer to the default black and white and apply the Clouds Filter again, thats FIlters->Render->Clouds FIlter, this will eliminate all color from the image. Now go to Edit->Fade or simply hit Ctrl-Shift+F on your keyboard, that Ctrl-Command+F for Mac.This will bring forward the Fade dialogue, we will change the way the filter is applied from Normal to Linear Light.

Hit OK and this is the end result.

Now it may not say much on its own, but if you apply it on top of an image then the result is really impressive. And that is the coolest feature of this explosion effect that it is easy to create and as easy to customize it so it can be applied on almost all photos. So time for some creative chaos!

For sure you have seen the Andy Warhol art post-cards that come on all sorts of versions, and for sure you would love to have your own personalized version of them. Great thing that you found this tutorial then. Lets see how you can turn an ordinary picture into art with a couple of photoshop brushes.

First we will open our image on photoshop and to glam things up we will use Marilyn.

Then we will prepare our picture to accept the quintessential Warhol colors by messing around with the Brightness Contrast, which will give our picture a polarized effect. You will find the Brightness Contrast window on your top navigation bar, Image->Adjustments->Brightness Contrast. When you click it you will get a dialogue window. On that scroll the Contrast cursor all the way to 100, hit OK. You image just got more interesting.

Next we will play with Layers. Go to the top bar and choose Layers->Adjustment Layers->Posterize as shown below and name it. With this you are done with the procedural stuff, time now to get creative and bring the real Warhol out!

Now create a new layer and name it. From the layer drop down menu choose the following: Layer->Layer Style->Blending Options->Multiply. This is extremely important as it will allow you to roughly paint each of the layers (hair, skin etc) without really caring about outlines. Really really handy!

Next reach out for your brush, normal brush will do and for the hair we will use a bright yellow to “pop out” our portait.

We will repeat the above process in the exact same way for Marilyn’s skin and dress, each time using a different pop color.

Finish it off with a few extra brushes where you missed a spot and Warhol would be proud of that one!

Some like it tanned, some like it bleached white, no matter how you like skin tone you can get it following the next simple steps.
So lets see how you can lighten your skin tone. This process can be used in reverse to darken it as well, if you are looking for a more tanned look.

Step 1. Open you image of preference on your editor. We will use a tanned image for this tutorial so the change will be more obvious in the end.

Step 2. Create a duplicate layer of your image; simply right click on your original layer and choose duplicate. Name this as you wish. This is the layer we will work on.

Step 3. Choose you normal brush from the left hand side bar and choose from the color picker any color. Once thats done, start brushing on the visible skin areas of you picture. Namely the skin areas you want to lighten or darken its tone. Remember at this point to brush not only the face but all exposed skin, since it the end you want a smooth result.

Step 4. On the bottom right side of your editor, below the layers, is the Image button. Click it and then from the options choose Adjustment.

Step 5. This will bring up the Curves histogram window. Adjust the histogram according to your desired skin tone. If you the line towards Output the skin tone will lighten, if you move the curve line towards the Input the skin tone will darken. For the purpose of this tutorial we will lighten the skin tone.

Step 6. The histogram tool is really powerful although to some intimidating. Play around until you find the tone that works best for you.

Sometimes they can be sexy, sometimes you wish they just disappeared. For the second case we will see how to do exactly that on your photos. If you are happy with the result you can move to the real life removal.

Step 1. Open your picture on photoshop. As always we will use a random picture from the web.

Step 2.Zoom in using the magnifying glass-you can find that on the bottom left side of your photoshop-on the “problematic” area and reach for the Brush tool on the left hand sidebar of your photo editor. If you get it right then a drop down menu will open. Click on the Spot Brush Tool.

Step 3. Once you pick the Spot Brush Tool a new menu will appear on the top navigation bar with various options. We basically want to change the brush size so it fits the size of the spot we want to remove. In our example its rather small so a size 6 should be sufficient.

Step 4. With the Spot Brush Tool always selected simply click on the spot you wish to remove. And just like that the mole is history. Repeat Step 3 for different size spots.

Well done!

Whenever summer is nearing cellulite extinction is first on the agenda of most women out there. Before you actually get rid of it, you can get a taste of a cellulite free world through Photoshop. Lets see how you can get there sweat free.

Step 1.
Upload your image on Photoshop. We will use a random internet pic in this case.

Step 2.
Reach out for the Stamp tool on your left hand sidebar as shown below.

Step 3. We will not create a new layer for this tutorial. So, no need to create one. In this sense this is more of a note than a step!

Step 4. Using the Stamp tool you chose on Step 2 and by left-clicking and gliding choose the cellulite affected area.

Step 5. Once you pick the piece of skin you want to “heal” drag it and drop it on an area of skin where no cellulite is present, in the following manner.

Step 6. Once you choose the cellulite free area, the stamp tool will detect automatically and apply the same shades and texture settings identified on that area to the cellulite skin. Continue until you remove cellulite from the entire affected area. Try to use different size of patches to make the final result look more blended and natural.

Step 7. Choose the layer on the right hand side of your photoshop window and do a double left click which will unlock it and from the top bar choose: Layer->Duplicate Layer. Name that layer Copy. For step 8 we will work on the copy layer.

Step 8. From the top nav bar of photoshop choose Filter-> Blur ->Surface Blur. This will blur the entire cellulite affected area with the new layer we just created.

Step 9. To get a more natural result we will create a new mask by choosing the mask button on the bottom right bar of your photoshop window . That being done it will turn the copy layer into black and it will depend on us which bits of the corrected skin will be visible.

Step.10 To do this , choose the brush tool from the left hand sidebar and the white colour and start brushing on top of the skin area you want to reveal cellulite free. Set the opacity to approximately 70% and brush away!

If you like what you see in the end, waste no more time! Time to head to the gym!

While most styles are considered as layers fyltron effects (e.g, glows, bevels, and drop shadows), it is important to understand that it applies to a filter. Apply an effect in the entire layer.

For example, suppose you have a picture of a ball in its own layer and you apply a Drop Shadow to this layer. When this is done, everything in this layer will have exactly the same drop shadow to the ball.

Draw a line with the brush? This is drop shadow. Drag a rectangular selection and fill with glare to add another drop shadow. Remember, the styles are known as layer styles affect the entire layer.

How come celebrity models do not look exactly the same in the magazines as in the real life? Of course there is something going on behind the curtains, but what is happening?

Master Photoshop in just 2 hours with our online video Tutorials!

By now, we know that photo editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop can be used to manipulate photos and make people look “good”. Have you ever wished that you could look thin whenever you look at your photos? If you ever wished for a miracle, this tutorial is here to help you. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll explain how to make someone look thin using Photoshop.

Step-by-step tutorial:

1. First, open the picture you want to modify. Go to File -> Open and then choose the photograph.

2. Then, go to Filter menu and select Liquify.

3. A separate window will be opened for performing the Liquify effect.

4. In the new window, select the “Freeze Tool” for freezing the areas of the photograph that you do not want to make thin. As an example; the head is an area that we do not wish to make thin. Therefore, the background and the head area will be frozen using Freeze Tool.

Once the areas that do not need to be touched are marked, they will be highlighted in red. You can use different brush sizes (select from the right panel) carefully selecting the areas you do not want to be retouched. If you want to magnify the image for better visibility, press “ctrl and +”. Now, we’ll start with the body areas that are not highlighted in red and make them slightly thinner.

5. Now that you’ve got the parts that you do not want touched; go to the “Wrap Tool” located in the toolbar.

6. Make the brush size bigger, about 125 will be the ideal. Now touch the edges of the body area with the selected brush to make them look thin. For touching up the fine areas, simply use a smaller sized brush. Carefully touch the edges of the area while making sure they do not look abnormal or out of shape. Once you are done with thinning the body area, you’ll get an image similar to the one below. The cleared areas are the areas that have become thin.

7. Once you are done with the thinning, click OK in the right panel to go back to the image’s main window.

8. Save the thinned image and compare it with the old one. You will instantly see the difference between the two — differences such as the ones shown below are not uncommon.

Final words on making someone look thin using Photoshop

Making someone look “good” with Adobe Photoshop is just a couple of minutes away and it is as easy as this mini-guide illustrates. You can make anyone look thin with a few clicks of your mouse but do remember that your creativity and artistic ability needs to be used when attending to the task. So go on and make people look slim and beautiful!Once done you may want to go a step further by doing some body reshaping.

Adding Spiral Beams around your objects really gives a 3D sense to your objects. We will see on this tutorial how you can add these beams around any object you may want to give depth to using Photoshop CS4. For the purposes of this tutorial we suggest using a 3D object like this sphere but any object would do.

1. The first thing we want to do is create a new layer.

2. Next we will open our path’s panel and choose the ellipse tool. Once you pick the ellipse tool go to the tool’s options bar on the top toolbar and click on the middle icon named Path, you can easily identify it by hovering over with your cursor on the icons of the toolbar. This will turn your cursor into a little pen tool. With this tool chosen draw a very thin wide oval near the base of your object.

3. Next we need to choose our direct selection tool. This is placed usually just over the ellipse tool, on the lower portion of the tools toolbar and is marked with a black arrow. Click on it and select the path of the oval object you just designed, this will bring up 4 anchors. We want to add 2 more anchors to these, so we will go to the Pen tool and from the available tools choose the add anchor tool. Click on it and create 2 extra anchors just on the edges of your object on the areas highlighted.

4. Once we have all 6 anchors set, we will go back to the direct selection tool and we will choose the anchors that would stand lie behind our object and delete them. This will give us a flat C running around in the front side of our object.

5. Next we will grab this path and move it down to the new path button. This is placed on the bottom toolbar of the paths panel. Once done right click on it and duplicate that path. We will now edit the duplicate path we just created. We will select the path that runs on the left side of our object and delete it.

6. Next we will grab our brush tool, which is placed on the top side of the tools toolbar.
Click on it and go to brush options, we will set the brush diameter to 7pxls and set hardness to 100%. Next click on the brush options dialogue box, which is placed just on top of the paths panel you have running and turn shape dynamics ON.

7. Next right click on the duplicate path and select stroke path. Choose brush and simulate pressure. This will create a beam that whirls around the object.

8. Now we will switch to the original path and again on the path selection tool. Select the paths of the swirl we created before, hold down the shift key and hit the upper arrow key a few times so the path will move upwards. Once done we will replicate the stroke path steps as described on step 7. This will create another swirl. Repeat this until you get the desired number of swirls.

9. Finally we want to give our swirls an angle. For this go back to the Layers mode, remember we were working on the paths mode until now, and select the swirls layer. Right click on it after you select it and select skew and give your swirls an angle by pulling the top right corner a bit up and the bottom left down, which will give them a cool moving effect.

On today’s tutorial we will see how you can easily change the colours of someone’s eyes. First thing you will need is a photo with a clear view of the model’s eyes. Once you have your image open, click on the Quick Mask button on the bottom of your left side tool bar on your photoshop.

Once you go on Quick Mask mode you will need to zoom right into the eyes using the zoom tool on your Photoshop toolbar. You can simply draw a selection over across the eyes using your zoom tool, once you release the mouse this will bring the eye area right into focus.

Next step is to select a brush from your toolbar and start brushing, as in painting right on the coloured area of the eye, the iris. You will notice that the brush effect will appear painting the eye area red.

Tip! If you want to go lighter on the brush click on the brush preset picker on the top photoshop toolbar and decrease the hardness of your brush by moving the hardness slider to the left.

Once the brush hardness is reduced paint over the eye again and repeat on the other eye. When done click on the Normal Mode button to go into normal mode, and this will turn the “masked” eyes into selection.

Moving on go to View-> Actual Pixels to view the image in higher resolution. Then go Select -> Inverse and this will make the eyes the only selected part of the picture which will allow us to change their colour.

To do that go Image -> Adjustments -> Hue/Saturation. By playing around with the Hue we are going to change the colour of the eyes. Before that we do not want to apply the Hue effect on the whole picture that’s why we do View -> Extras, deselect Extras.

Back to the Hue/Saturation window, we reduce Saturation just a little bit and finally move the Hue slider around and see the effect that this has on your model’s eyes!

Tip! If you want the eyes really colourful just increase the saturation level. Equally by controlling the lightness slider you can lighten and darken the shades of the colour of your choice.
